As many of you know, I have been in Costa Rica for the last two school years. The first year, I was a part of the GAP program with SCORE International, and this year I am an intern for a church plant started by GAP’s Bible teacher and director. I have learned a lot in the last two year, and I am now looking to God again for His plans for my future. As I consider many possibilities, I have been really looking into doing something along the lines of construction missions.
This passion arose through working with two different organization during my time down here in Costa Rica. TECHO is the Central and South America’s equivalent of Habitat for Humanity, and Homes of Hope is the construction branch of YWAM. While working with these organizations, I have come to see the power of building a house for a family in need. If done right, you can have a huge impact in so many different areas of their lives.
In the long run, I would love to build a home building ministry from the ground up in a Spanish speaking country. When SCORE International expressed a need to have for a construction coordinator in the Dominican Republic, it seemed like a perfect opportunity for me. For the month of June, I will be serving with SCORE, primarily assisting with construction teams. This is a perfect way for me to get my feet wet and test the waters. Also, this will open my eyes to what else I need to learn before I could start a similar ministry.
My responsibilities in June will include:
– Construction coordinator
– Coordinating with the missionaries in the DR and team leaders of groups about logistics
– Price checking and buying of materials for the builds
– Prep work on all work sight before the team gets to DR
– Overseeing all projects
– Translator
– Intern for anything the base or the missionaries need
I would appreciate your prayer support while I am in the Dominican Republic. The costs for the entire month, including plane tickets, will be $2000. If you would like to support me for this trip you can go online at www.scoreintl.org go to donate and in the description box put my name.
